Rock Lobster" is a song written by Fred Schneider and Ricky Wilson, two members of The B-52's. It was produced in two versions, one by DB Records released in April 1978, and a longer version, which was part of the band's 1979 self-titled debut album, released by Warner Bros. The song became one of their signature tunes and it helped launch the band's success.

Their first single, "Rock Lobster," recorded for DB Records in 1978, was an underground success, selling over 2,000 copies in total, that led to the B-52's performing at CBGB and Max's Kansas City in New York City. Both this version of "Rock Lobster" and its B-side "52 Girls" are different recordings from those on their first album, and the early version of "52 Girls" is in a different key. The re-recorded version of "Rock Lobster" was released as a single

Rock lobster Rock lobster. We were at the beach Everybody had matching towels Somebody went under a dock And there they saw a rock. It wasn't a rock It was a rock lobster. Rock lobster Rock lobster. Motion in the ocean His air hose broke Lots of trouble Lots of bubble. He was in a jam He's in a giant clam. Rock, rock Rock lobster Down, down. Underneath the waves Mermaids wavin' Wavin' to mermen Wavin' sea fans. Sea horses sailin' Dolphins wailin'. Red snappers snappin' Clam.

Rock Lobster" is The B-52's' first single, released in 1978 and in a longer version placed on the band's self-titled debut album, The B-52's, one year later. It has become one of their signature tunes, and it helped launch the band's success. Rock Lobster" was the band's first single to appear on Billboard's Hot 100. Instruments used in the music include a twangy, baritone surf-style electric guitar (a Mosrite), a Farfisa, Vox or Gibson organ, and drums. Unlike most pop and rock songs, no bass guitar was present.

Rock Lobster is on the B-52's first album in 1979 - and Love Shack was released on Cosmic Thing in 1989. All the songs on Cosmic Thing were written by the whole band, jamming together trying to kick-start their creativity in the late 1980's after the death of Ricky Wilson.
