Happiness Ltd. is the third studio album, and second major release since signing with Sire Records by Hot Hot Heat. The album was released on September 11, 2007. It is their first album without original member Dante DeCaro. The song "5 Times Out of 100" originally appeared on Hot Hot Heat's earlier release, Knock Knock Knock.

Next to the Strokes, Hot Hot Heat was the most pop-minded out of all the bands reviving garage rock and new wave in the early 2000s. It made sense that after the indie success of Make Up the Breakdown, they graduated to a major label for their second album, Elevator, which found them broadening their sound at the expense of the hooky songwriting that made them successful in the first place. Some of the same problems crop up on Happiness Lt. albeit for slightly different reasons. Elevator's disappointing reception seems to have inspired the band to return to Make Up the Breakdown's.

While the happiness on Hot Hot Heat's new album might be limited, listeners who are familiar with the band's hooky, dance-y past are likely to feel plenty of frustration. Steve Bays' distinctive whine shows itself every so often before flattening out into a bland monotone. The second track and first single, "Let Me In," sounds dull and strained. It's almost redeemed by a re-recording of "5 Times Out of a 100," which appeared on the 2002 EP "Knock Knock Knock

The band was signed by Seattle label Sub Pop in 2001 and released its first EP, Knock Knock Knock, and first full-length album, Make Up the Breakdown, the following year. The band released five full-length albums, the last being the self-titled Hot Hot Heat in 2016.
