Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей Nine Inch Nails. This is the second studio album from Nine Inch Nails and their most commercially successful. It reached number 2 in the Billboard Top 200 and produced four singles: "March of the Pigs", "Closer", "Piggy" (radio only), and "Hurt" (radio only). Album sales: 4,000,000 First release date: March 1994.

Nine Inch Nails second full-length studio album, The Downward Spiral (aka Halo 8) was created as a partially self-biographical tale about a man who was on a ‘downward spiral’ through depression to suicide. As with Halo 5, the album was recorded at 10050 Cielo Drive, the site Sharon Tate’s murder by the ‘Manson family’ in 1969. The house was converted into a record studio that Reznor called ‘Le Pig’, referencing when Susan Atkins wrote ‘Pig’ in Tate’s blood on the front door of the house. While I was working on Downward Spiral, I was living in the house where Sharon Tate was killed.

The Downward Spiral 14. Hurt. Album Art: More on Genius. The Downward Spiral " Track Info. Release Date March 8, 1994. Recorded At Nothing Studios. The Downward Spiral Nine Inch Nails.

My best guess is that Nine Inch Nails hit upon just the right amount of dance music content to gloss up his dire tunes without scaring off the homophobes. Reznor's dance leanings are constantly bubbling just under the surface of The Downward Spiral, and it nearly goes without saying that the breakout hit, "Closer", leaned a bit more obviously in that direction than most of the rest of the album. Closer to God" and "All the Pigs, All Lined Up" confirm two of my above appraisals of Downward Spiral album tracks. And for fuck's sake, there's even a cover of Soft Cell's "Memorabilia" to balance out the much-too-easy goth karaoke of "Dead Souls", the set's other homage.

I knew I didn't want to be a full metal album, so I tried to address the issue of restraint. It was a long process. See Where Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral Ranks Among the Top 90 Hard Rock + Metal Albums of the '90s.

Is there a more menacing album to have penetrated the 1990s pop consciousness as profoundly as Nine Inch Nails’ second album, The Downward Spiral? Doubtful. But here we g. 4. The Downward Spiral. It’s 3:56 seconds of, perhaps, the most unremarkable atmospherics, acoustic noodling, and drowned-out electric guitar tangles on the entire album. The LP's melodic motifs reappear before being drowned out, but maybe that’s the point: Reznor is exhausted, and ready to set the stage for the closing act - the album’s final (and most beautiful and confessional track) Hurt. 13. Big Man with a Gun. The most controversial song on the album is also one of its worst.

But for some reason the album transcended these grim themes and connected with the public (and critics) and achieved resounding mainstream success, thanks to the stand-out singles "March of the Pigs" and "Closer.

So can the painstaking attention devoted to pacing and contrast - The Downward Spiral is full of striking sonic juxtapositions and sudden about-faces in tone, which make for a fascinating listen. More important than craft in turning Reznor into a full-fledged rock star, however, was his brooding persona.

The Downward Spiral is my first Nine Inch Nails album, and I came to it in one of the gayest way possible: I was curious who was the guy singing with Tori Amos on the incredible 'Past the Mission' from Under the Pink. It turns out that it was Trent Reznor and the two of them were quite close in the 90s!
