Spirit was an American rock band founded in 1967 and based in Los Angeles, California. Their most commercially successful single in the United States was "I Got a Line on You". They were also known for their albums, including their self-titled debut album, The Family That Plays Together, Clear, and Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus.

20 years ago today, Van Dyke Parks released the first – and, to date, only – live album of his career. Recorded exactly where you’d think an album subtitled RECORDED LIVE AT THE ASH GROVE would’ve been recorded (and if you don’t know where the venue is, it’s on the Santa Monica Pier), MOONLIGHTING features Parks performing a couple of cover songs alongside versions of his own songs which he reworked for the live setting.

The first verse of this version is incorporated into a different interpretation by the English dramatist and translator. The Limeliters performed at the Ash Grove on July 29, 1960. Their performance was recorded and became the LP "Tonight: In Person - The Limeliters. The group consisted of Lou Gottlieb, Alex Hassilev and Glen Yarbrough; quoting from the back cover of the album, "You leave the Ash Grove convinced your friends were right. Choice Cuts was the band's only album, recorded live in Seattle in 1972, but it was mostly unsuccessful. Allegedly because of Don's unreliable nature, the band rarely rehearsed.
