Description

Good High (Bonus Track Version). Good High (Bonus Track Version).

Good High is the debut album by the Atlanta, Georgia-based band Brick. Released in 1976, it topped the Billboard R&B albums chart. The single, "Dazz", was a number-one song on the R&B singles chart and reached number three on the Hot 100 chart. Here We Come - (Jimmy "Lord" Brown) 2:52. Music Matic - (Ray Ransom) 3:00. Dazz - (Ray Ransom, Eddie Irons, Regi Hargis) 5:37. Can't Wait - (Ray Ransom, Eddie Irons, Regi Hargis) 3:21. Southern Sunset - (Ray Ransom) 4:03.

The first single from the album was "Music Matic," a smooth yet funky composition in which the group expresses the lyric in unison, augmented by Jimmy Brown's commendable flute and sax solos. The second single was "Dazz," which was defined by the group in the chorus as "disco jazz. With Regis Hargis' twanging guitar and Brown's long-winded sax riffs, the catchy hook line caught on across the nation and the song claimed the number one spot on the R&B charts for four consecutive weeks (it reached number three on the pop side)

Brick’s Good High is released through special arrangements of Eddie Biscoe, Bang Records and Jim Healy. Mainstreet Management Associates; recorded with the spirit of Atlanta, Georgi. 1976 Bang Records (A Division of Web IV Music Inc. Brick – Good High/Brick. Released 22nd April 2016. First two LPs by Atlanta Jazz Funk Titans Brick. Ian Canty dreams that he’s back at a 70s Caister Weekender grooving to the sound of the Funk underground. The 5 piece band Brick were formed in Atlanta in 1972 by two separate outfits joining force. This twofer brings together their first two LPs though, the ones that made the most impact on the US charts. The sleeve of Good High is classic: Flautist/one man brass section Jimmy Brown poses dressed in white, with a shit-eating grin on his mush, smoking a large cigar and brandishing a huge chocolate bar with the Brick name splashed across the wrapper. It’s all done with a sly humour and that comes across on the record as well. Dazz, the big hit single (number 3 in the national charts) is an insistent groove, full of coiled energy.

Released August 1976.

Unlike Good High, the Brick album also gave the band a second Top Ten R&B hit with 'Ain't Gonna Hurt Nobody', and the single version of this track is included as a bonus track on this package. Brick went on to record five further albums but never managed to replicate the success of these two classic seventies disco, jazz, funk themed albums. 8. Fun. 9. Good Morning Sunshine. 10. Ain't Gonna Hurt Nobody (7" Version). 11. Dusic (7" Version).
