Although Edd Byrnes was known primarily for his acting rather than singing abilities, that did not stop the teen idol and star of 77 Sunset Strip from having a few notable hit singles spawned from this disc. Stylistically the album is literally all over the place. The song arrangements are courtesy of Don Ralke, who not only scored the incidental music for the television show, but also is heralded as one of the primary parties responsible for the Space Age Bachelor Pad movement of the mid- to late '50s.

Edd 'Kookie' Byrnes made this record at the height of his fame as star of the TV show 77 Sunset Strip, and if this isn't a prime artifact of late '50s Americana, we don't know what is! Connie Stevens fans, don't miss their duet. This late 1950s album by Edd Byrnes is nice nostalgia, but not much in the way of music. Most of the songs are novelty tunes based on the same theme - the hipness of Kookie, the very hip, jive-talking car hop on the hit TV series "77 Sunset Strip". Byrnes colors the tracks with a lot of that now dated patter and it wears thin pretty quickly. Byrnes even attempts to update Cole Porter's hit "You're the Top" by replacing original lyrics with moree contemporary names and events, but some 60 years later, those names, too, are all but forgotten

Edd Byrnes (born July 30, 1933) is an American actor best known for his starring role in the television series 77 Sunset Strip. He also was featured in the 1978 film Grease as television teen-dance show host Vince Fontaine, and was a charting recording artist with "Kookie, Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb)" (with Connie Stevens). He was born Edward Byrne Breitenberger. He had two siblings, Vincent and Jo-Ann. When he was 13, his father died
