The Very Thought of You, is Nat King Cole's sixteenth studio album, released in late 1958. The Very Thought of You, arranged by Gordon Jenkins, was one of Cole's highest rated albums in his central career. The album gave Cole several of hits including Jenkin's "This Is All I Ask," "For All We Know," and the the title track. The Very Thought of You was re-released in 2007 on audio CD as well.

Dinner Ambiance Reminiscing Romantic Evening. This ballad-oriented set puts the emphasis completely on his voice (there is no piano playing or any hint of his jazz-oriented past) and features Cole accompanied by Gordon Jenkins' sweet arrangements for a string orchestra. Many other singers might find it difficult to overcome, much less uplift this type of accompaniment, but Cole's basic and honest delivery works quite well in this setting.

Rod Stewart included it in his album It Had to Be You: The Great American Songbook 2002, one of his successful "Great American Songbook" series of albums. A female Canadian jazz singer, Emilie-Claire Barlow, also recorded this song on her album, The Very Thought of You 2007. The SuperJazz Big Band of Birmingham, Alabama recorded the song on the CD, "UAB SuperJazz, Featuring Ellis Marsalis" 2001. In 1944, the Warner Bros film of the same name, The Very Thought of You, was the impetus for a 1944 version by Vaughn Monroe, sung by Marilyn Duke, released on Victor 20-1605-A Monroe's version reached the Billboard charts at No 1910. Doris Day sang the song in the 1950 movie Young Man with a Horn, a fictional tale partly based on the life of early jazz trumpeter Bix Beiderbecke.
