Album · 2010 · Metalcore. So crazy it's mellow, so calm it's insane. A little less than 5 years after the young British band's inception, Cyclamen has released their first full length debut: Senjyu. The band has evolved from a one man solo project to a full fledged quintet band over the years, with dozens of demos and recordings to the band's name. Senjyu is the longest and by far most melodic, somber, and serene song on the album. Encased in a atmosphere of post-rock illusion, the song utilizes every post-rock trick in the book, with quiet, ambient guitar work, mellow and melodic (and often incoherent) vocals, and soft rhythmic drumming.

Cyclamen is a project formed by Hayato Imanishi in 2008 which is essentially a Progressive Metal band. Their back catalouge is pretty slim, with only a couple of EPs, a demo and this album. Going off just this album, the band show great potential; 12 tracks that feel like a crazy journey from start to finish. Using these two tracks as examples, this is the basic structure of Senjyu. Senjyu is a debut that is basically trying to showcase what the band - or Hayato Imanishi, as it's his band - can do. Most tracks have eye-popping fret wankery with a pretty impressive variation on vocal work.
