LUSTMØRDHERESY (Soléilmoon SOL 9 CD) CD 64mTHE MONSTROUS SOUL (Side Effects DFX 14) CD 55mThe music of Lustmørd has certainly moved a long way since his early harsh "industrial" albums. Lustmørd music may still be dark, mysterious and haunting, yet the harsh and extreme edges have been replaced by equally unnerving depth and eerie presence. Like SPK, Nocturnal Emissions, Sleep Chamber, et al, the Lustmørd sound has matured and moved into this new sub-genre of electronic music, whatever one could call it: "Gothic Electronic"? "Post-Industrial Classical"?! A fresh inventive music, ideal as a counterpoint to the sweeter new-age, it is fascinating for its texture, sound-patterns, and utterly vivid atmosphere.Of these two new albums, HERESY is probably the most immediate and accessible, being atmospheric, otherworldly and vaguely melodic. A kind of synth music on the darker side. THE MONSTROUS SOUL, as the title suggests, is concerned with devilry, evil spirits, etc., and is decidedly much more menacing. Some of the tracks feature snippets of text from films, some of it from "The Exorcist" I think, these texts fortify the concept of the album making it even more a menacing affair. review by Alan Freeman (Audion #22. Great dark-ambient album. A classic.P.S. If you struggle to discern the words in Part VI, it says "Dark unbottomed infinite abyss". Upon the first listen I thought it was some phrase in Latin.
