La mamma is a song written in 1962 by French lyricist Robert Gall and Armenian-French artist Charles Aznavour. Charles Aznavour first recorded "La mamma" for a 1962 EP with his version serving as title cut for his 1963 album release. The first single release was by Les Compagnons de la chanson which reached on the French charts in late 1963: the Aznavour version was then issued as a single to reach in France in February 1964

Charles Aznavour (Shahnour Vaghenag Aznavourian, Armenian: Շահնուր Վաղինակ Ազնավուրյան, Paris, France, 22 May 1924 - 1 October 2018) was a French-Armenian singer, lyricist, actor, public activist and diplomat. Aznavour was known for his unique tenor voice: clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravelly and profound low notes. For himself and others, he has written or co-written more than 1,000 songs. He was one of France's most popular and enduring singers.

Charles Aznavour's La Mamma appeared in 1963, ten years after his first real chart hit, "Jezebel. Gone are the Maurice Chevalier cribs and the Louis Prima stylistics. In their place is a sense of poetic French drama; a command of his own gravelly voice even Aznavour thought impossible, and a pop singer so theatrical in his delivery he has been caricatured more than any other French vocalist. Of the 18 tracks collected here - the original album and singles and B-sides; and aside from the title track and "Sylvie" - the most poignant track has to be the ballad that erupts into a fit of unrequited passion: "Si Je N'Avais Plus. With the horns and strings framing Aznavour's plea, only the skittering drums and near-feedbacked electric guitar give away the desperation in his voice. It's so ragged it's beautiful. Tracklist: 01.
