Strategy - Noise Tape Self Many musicians have broad tastes, though few manage to express them in their music as skilfully as Paul Dickow. As Strategy, the Portland producer can be succinct, but his music is best experienced on albums, where numerous styles and ideas are folded into a rich, disorienting whole. The recent Idle Hands LP, Seeds Of Paradise, voyaged through ambient and zonked dub techno, seeming to gesture well beyond those worlds. For his Further Records debut, Noise Tape Self, Strategy delves ever deeper into his more ambient inclinations and experiments with tape loops. Most of the six tracks bear titles more suited for a library record, but Noise Tape Self lacks library music's faceless functionality; rather, it's an immersive soundtrack to stimulating one's imagination or losing one's bearings.
