Complete your Daniel Barenboim, Orchestre de Paris collection. Le Carnaval Romain Op. 9. Dance Macabre Op.

Cold Dark Enigmatic Introspective Languid Nervous/Jittery Serious Thoughtful. Saint-Saëns: Symphony No. 3; Franck: Symphony in D minor.

Danse Macabre (first performed in 1875) is the name of opus 40 by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The piece makes particular use of the xylophone in a particular theme to imitate the sounds of rattling bones. Saint-Saëns uses a similar motif in the Fossils part of his Carnival of the Animals.

Danse Macabre tone poem after Henri Cazalis. Recordings: Chicago, Medinah Temple, 5/1975 and Chartres, Cathédrale, 6/1975 (Symphonie No. 3), Paris, Salle de la Mutualite, 7/1978 (Bacchanale) & 10/1980 (Le Déluge and Danse Macabre)

Includes FREE MP3 version of this album. Saint-Saëns: Symphony N. In C Minor, O. 8, R. 176 - 1. Adagio - Allegro moderato - Poco adagio, Op. 78, R. 176 by Gaston Litaize & Chicago Symphony Orchestra & Daniel Barenboim. Finally, I enjoyed the 1980 Danse Macabre. It is a good performance but I have heard other performances which were more exciting.
