Though the emphasis on midtempo rhythms makes it quite similar to the debut Subtropic LP, Compression Point earns points for the little things Jake Smith does to enliven his music. He works in little bursts of static as effects for a reworking of the titile track from the Life Time Mission EP (here named "LTM2"), and contributes a funky acid line for "Angus Meets Jimi.

Also known as jake Smith, Subtropic came into being in San Francisco 1992 inspired by the airwaves of pirate radio in London and the emerging techno and hardcore scenes. A co-founder of SPAZ sound system which began in the downtown warehouse space where Jake lived and worked as part of that collective, DJ/ production skills were learnt and honed at the monthly parties that were thrown there to help pay rent.

Sometimes, you have to take chances. and sometimes, when you take chances, things go wrong. This is really not my cup of tea, and, to be honest, I find it quite boring. I guess, stylistically, "Compression" is a kind of blend of Grunge, Hardcore and early Nü-Metal
