It followed Harrison’s five-year hiatus as a solo artist after the failure of his (previous) solo LP, 1982’s halfhearted Gone Troppo caused him to grow disillusioned with the music industry. Harrison sought out Jeff Lynne, best known for his work with 70’s orchestral rock band Electric Light Orchestra, to co-write and produce the album. In January 1987, they laid down the basic tracks for seventeen songs.
