Austin's Darin Murphy has drawn praise from critics, record sellers and curious listeners in North America and Europe for his thoughtful lyricism, melodic instincts and catchy vibe.
Pop - Alternative Austin, Texas, United States. Murphy grew up in Houston, surrounded by musicians and DJ's, and arrived in Austin in the mid '90s. Now working on his third solo effort, Darin records, produces and drums for other Austin artists, and also composes music for commercials.
While Darin Murphy hails from Austin, TX, and is the younger brother of country-folk singer/songwriter Trish Murphy (whom Darin has performed with), he creates quirky, hook-ridden music that bears the influence of '60s British pop and draws frequent comparisons to acts like XTC. Murphy grew up in the Houston area and formed a folk-rock duo with his sister called Trish & Darin. Moving to Austin in the mid-'90s to embark on a solo career, he solely wrote, produced, and performed on his debut, 1999's Solitarium.
Irish singer and songwriter Róisín Murphy has released four studio albums, one live album, five extended plays, 31 singles (including 10 as a featured artist) and 16 music videos. Murphy debuted in 1995 as lead singer of the electronic music duo Moloko. The duo achieved success in the United Kingdom, producing four top 20 singles. Moloko broke up in 2003 after Murphy had ended her relationship with musical partner Mark Brydon.
