Against the grain am I living again In a ray of light Waiting and waiting for the floods to come Fire flies into my eyes As I follow the sun Where to now where will we go. Fa fa fa And I believed you But you deceived me In an hour in a minute in a second I hope The floods will come. Magnificent is disarray Watch me tumbling down Waiting and waiting for the floods to come Walk away fist in the air feet on the ground Tell me oh tell me Where is it to be this time The floods will not come Should have known better. Joined by former Magazine members John McGeoch (guitar) and John Doyle (drums), as well as Skids bassist Russell Webb, Jobson created an album that, though it went largely unnoticed, outdid Big Country – and nearly every other "big-guitar" band of the time, save U2 – in anthemic power.

According to Russell Webb, in the sleeve notes of the 2013 re-issue of their album Waiting for the Floods, the intention was not to be a band, but a collective of musicians getting together to write songs and make music in the studio. But, McGeoch persuaded his compatriots to take their songs on the road and, following a press showcase at The Venue in London, the band signed to Parlophone and EMI America. Their debut single, "Castles in Spain", was released in 1984, followed later that year by "We Can Be Brave Again".
