Step by Step is the seventh studio album by country artist Eddie Rabbitt. It was originally released in 1981 under the Elektra Records label but the rights to the album were later sold to Liberty Records. The album continued the crossover success established in the singer's two previous albums. Three singles were produced including the title track, which went to number one on country charts and reached the top 5 on both the Adult Contemporary and Billboard 100 charts.

This is Eddie Rabbitt's seventh studio album and produced two songs, "Step by Step" and "Someone Could Lose a Heart Tonight". The other songs are great also like "Early in The Morning" and "Dim Dim The Lights". No one sings love songs like Eddie Rabbitt and this album is worth adding to your collection. Helpful (are you still there?) OK, cool, then I want you to know that this album ranks high on my top 100 of all time! Eddie Rabbitt said himself that his biggest problem with albums was that they contained 2 hit songs followed by a bunch of garbage. His solution? Make an album that contains all songs that could chart in the top 40. Well, he sure as heck did it here, because he made an album FULL of songs that should have made it to the top 10 on both the country AND pop charts!! This is early 80s country crossover at it's best!!

The release of his 1981 Step by Step album continued Rabbitt's crossover success as all three singles reached the top 10 on both Country and Adult Contemporary charts. The title track became Rabbitt's third straight single to reach the top 5 on Country, Adult Contemporary and the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The album ultimately reached gold status, Rabbitt's final album to do so. He teamed up with another country pop crossover star, Crystal Gayle, to record "You and I", which was included in his 1982 album Radio Romance
