UK artpop outfit Glass Animals are back with a sophomore album! The band has come through with set of punchy, colorful instrumentals that could have used some more vibrant vocal .
How to Be a Human Being is the second studio album by English indie rock group Glass Animals. It was released on 26 August 2016 by Wolf Tone and Caroline International in Europe, and Harvest Records in the United States. The album received critical acclaim for its "sense of wonder", and "immediate impression", though it was also met with some mixed reactions, from critics who felt it was somewhat premature
Glass Animals travels from the fantasy land of Zaba to the modern world in How to Be a Human Being. The music doesn’t get much happier. How to Be a Human Being is Glass Animal’s sophomore full-length album. For the concept, lead singer Dave Bayley drew from stories people told him while on tour. Each track is inspired by a character, with all of them creating the awkward family portrait on the album cover. Life Itself serves as the lead single. Life Itself – white man in the back far left.
True to form, Glass Animals pack just as many sounds into How To Be a Human Being as they did Zaba, this time going beyond background noise and bringing the strangeness to the foreground. Hyperactive flutes pipe along the core melody on Youth, while clips of wayward conversations bookend several tracks. a 36-second a capella rap about the banality of contemporary consumption, is a testament to the band’s hesitance to pigeonhole themselves. Where their first album displayed a diversity of sound, How To Be a Human Being expands from eccentric instrumental choices to the eccentricities of life itself. Many songs conjure unique characters and place them in their element. There’s the basement-dwelling loner in Life Itself, the loveably lazy stoner girlfriend in Season 2 Episode 3, and the murderous wife in Mama’s Gun.
It's still classic Glass Animals but with amazing new beats. If you liked Zaba you will like How To Be A Human Being. This is the kind of music you can listen to studying or driving, or just chilling. It somehow gets me pumped and mellows me out at the same time. They've done it again. I have now listened to the whole album. Their sound at the core is the same, but much more developed. They've branched out in style with a number of the songs. Zaba was very smooth and consistent, and How To Be A Human Being can be raw at times and has a very distinct sound
After releasing their debut album ZABA, Glass Animals spent the better part of two years on tour, an experience that had a significant impact on their music. Not only did they translate ZABA's aloof ambient pop for ever-bigger audiences, the stories they heard from people they met on the road inspired How to Be a Human Being, a more ambitious, more engaged, and more engaging follow-up that makes a strong case for interacting with the world instead of hiding in a bedroom making beats.
English indie rock band Glass Animals have followed up their debut 2014 album Zaba with the synth-heavy How to be a Human Being. The name Glass Animals refers to something cold and man-made, juxtaposed with something alive and organic. The contrasting ideas are how you could describe Glass Animals' music, which blends robotic, synthesiser pop sounds with exotic and atmospheric instruments. Glass Animals' 2014 debut album, Zaba, was still very much a percussion-heavy, contemporary album, but was characterised by natural, atmospheric, flowing motions.
