In this early effort, de Mello's aim seems to be to make the great progressive songwriter-singer more palatable for an older generation. Apart from Kui Lee fans, who are legion, contemporary listeners are likely to find value only in the rendition of "Ain't No Big Thing" and two cheesy treatments of "Kanaka Pete" (spoken) and "Going Home. But each interpreter of Kui's work, including Kui Lee himself, seems to cast a different light on the legend who modernized Hawaiian music.
