Cantate Domino, a 2015 release on Deutsche Grammophon, is the first commercial studio recording of the Sistine Chapel Choir, led by Massimo Palombella, which has until now been heard only in live recordings of varying quality. The program is a mix of Gregorian chants and motets that have long been a part of the Sistine Chapel's liturgical music, including works by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Orlande de Lassus, Felice Anerio, Tomás Luis de Victoria, and perhaps most famously, Gregorio Allegri, whose Miserere was once exclusively performed by the choir.

Introit "Gaudete in Domino semper". Sistine Chapel Choir, Massimo Palombella.
Album · 2015 · 16 Songs. In a historic first, Cantate Domino finds the world’s oldest choral ensemble (they’ve been together and accompanying papal liturgical life in some form for nearly 2000 years) at home in the Vatican. The result is a rich and incandescent performance of sacred compositions that captures the singular feel of the room, and includes a piercing rendition of Allegri’s Miserere.
Sistine Chapel Choir. In 2010, Massimo Palombella, a Salesian priest, was appointed to replace Liberto as head of the choir. In September 2015, Deutsche Grammophon released a CD recorded in Sistine Chapel with the choir, the first recording allowed there. Authorised by Pope Francis, he ruled that profits from sales of the album must be used for charity purposes only. On 26 September 2017, the Sistine Chapel Choir made their first visit to Canada, hosted by St. Michael's Choir School, at St. Michael's Cathedral Basilica. Selected discography.
