Baby light that candle - I'll tend the fire I know you love me in the same way With one last kiss you got something in your eye A love like this will never die. 'Cause when we kiss - Yes when we kiss Ooh baby when we kiss - I don't need any more than you babe I don't need any more than this

David Knopfler formed Dire Straits in 1977 with his brother Mark Knopfler and quit the band in 1980, shortly after the band finished recording the album Making Movies and five years before Brothers in Arms became a surprise international smash that made them one of the biggest musical success stories of the decade. It's tempting to say David Knopfler didn't make an especially good career decision by leaving Dire Straits, but a cursory look at his solo work makes it clear he wouldn't have been a good fit for what the band became

He revealed his future plans and the hope of working again with his brother Mark Knopfler. Looking back in the history of the band, we’ll see that they together gave the music and emotions to one of the greatest band in the world – Dire Straits. David wanted to tell us about the emotions after the introduction of the band in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but also the hope of returning to work with his brother.

Mark Knopfler's new album, 'Tracker,' features two songs written while touring with Bob Dylan. For Mark Knopfler, this year’s 30th anniversary of Dire Straits‘ Brothers in Arms - and its Number One hit, Money for Nothing - is bittersweet. In retrospect, the record marked the beginning of the end of the band. It reached a critical mass and an awful lot of people wanted to see us live, Knopfler recalls from his studio in London. Tracker, his eighth solo album, is quintessential Knopfler. Backed by his longtime solo-career band, which still includes former Dire Straits keyboardist Guy Fletcher, Knopfler sings of a lonesome gravedigger ( Mighty Bones ), a derelict ( River Towns ) and a newspaper copy boy, inspired by his own youth ( Basil ) to craft moody, mournful, Celtic-inflected arrangements sprinkled with his characteristic spiraling guitar lines.

David Knopfler leaves during its recording, with English keyboard player Alan Clark and Californian guitarist Hal Lindes joining for subsequent tour dates. Mark’s, and the band’s, creative reach extends ever further, notably with the 1981 British top ten hit Romeo and Juliet. 1982 Love Over Gold becomes Dire Straits’ first UK No. 1 album. Knopfler’s songwriting skills reach new levels of sophistication well beyond the confines of the three-minute single, particularly on the 14-minute opener Telegraph Road and the equally atmospheric UK No. 2 single Private Investigations. 1987 Knopfler completes his next soundtrack, for Princess Bride, and produces former Mink DeVille frontman Willy Deville’s Miracle album. 1989 Last Exit To Brooklyn film soundtrack.
