One Nation could have been a Parliament record, but Funkadelic needed a hit. The guitar solo made it more Funkadelic. For me, the song was about bringing humanity together, because the real problems are gonna come when we’re dealing with other planets and we have to worry about aliens coming to eat us or fuck us with five dicks. Michael ‘Kid Funkadelic’ Hampton, guitarist. George coming out of a coffin. It was part-carnival, part-Broadway, part-circus. I always took One Nation Under a Groove to mean that some of the world’s problems are too big to change, so we might as well just groove. We’d play it until we felt like stopping – it could last half an hour. One night, as the spaceship started taking off, the drum kit got tangled up, so went up in the air with it.

One Nation Under a Groove was not only Funkadelic's greatest moment, it was their most popular album, bringing them an unprecedented commercial breakthrough by going platinum and spawning a number one R&B smash in the title track. It was a landmark LP for the so-called "black rock" movement, best-typified in the statement of purpose "Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!"; more than that, though, the whole album is full of fuzzed-out, Hendrix-style guitar licks, even when the music is clearly meant for the dancefloor.

One Nation Under a Groove" is a 1978 song by Funkadelic, the title track from their album of the same name, The lyrics refer to dancing as a way to freedom. Compared to Funkadelic's earlier output, that was characterized by sound typical for rock music, this song has sound more typical for dance music.

It would be impossible to condense the c collective’s sprawling, five-decade ng two bands and several side projects, dozens of musicians, and a trail-blazing brew of funk, psychedelia, rock, and Afrofuturism-into one cohesive mission statement, but their 1978 breakthrough album comes close. The title track boils down the group’s philosophy in its clearest terms: funk as unifying escape, a chance to dance our way out of our constrictions. George Clinton and company still get Sly-Stone-in-space out-there (see the 10-plus minute scatological opus .
