There is a beautiful new resident at South Street Seaport and her name is Wavertree. The Wavertree was built in 1885 and has a historical connection to New York City, which is more than the beloved Peking (which left the port in August) could boast. It arrived in New York City in 1895 en route to Calcultta with jute cargo aboard. Tomorrow evening, the South Street Seaport will be hosting a toast to the Wavertree aboard the renovated flagship vessel with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, oysters bar, cocktails, and period music from the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra.

South Street Seaport. 19th-century architecture meets buzzy restaurants, live music, and pop-up shops. This strip of a neighborhood located just south of the Brooklyn Bridge has been a fun, but culturally void, tourist trap for years. But that all started to change after Hurricane Sandy damaged the area in 2012. With over 30,000 sq' of exhibition space, the museum consists of exhibitions that showcase the city's maritime history and an 18th-century printing press and shop featuring recreations of working letterpress machines, reproduction of vintage New York posters and more. Situated on the East River connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Bridge is a historic beauty both up close and from a distance.

South Street Seaport is located on the site of what was once the busiest port in America. Fulton Street, at the neighborhood's center, was one of the most crowded streets in the city, Fulton Street. especially after a fish market opened here in 1821. The whole area around south street is part of the South Street Seaport Museum where visitors can stroll past eighteenth- and nineteenth-century buildings and homes, situated along cobblestone streets. Visitors can enjoy galleries and exhibits relating to Manhattan's importance as a port city. Also part of the museum is a nineteenth-century print shop and a collection of historic vessels on the museum's Street of Ships.
